Recent paintings
Marcus Cherrill’s paintings are rooted in close observation of landscape, light and the people and animals who inhabit it. From the Sussex coast and South Downs to places encountered through travel, his work explores shifting light, weather and atmosphere, alongside quieter moments of movement, connection and stillness.

Across series including Downland Light, Coastal Balance, Menorcan Light and Horse and Rider, familiar landscapes sit alongside figures, horses and more personal subjects. Rather than simply describing a place or moment, the paintings invite the viewer to notice what might otherwise be overlooked — finding beauty, memory and quiet presence in the familiar.
