Series: Horse and Rider
A lone horse and rider cross the wet sands beneath Bamburgh Castle at low tide. The figures are deliberately small within the composition, set against the great openness of beach, water and a sweeping Northumberland sky. Their broken reflection anchors them momentarily in a landscape dominated by shifting light and space.
Low Tide off Bamburgh brings together two powerful presences — horse and rider moving quietly through the foreground and the ancient castle holding the distant shoreline. Cool layers of blue and grey create an atmospheric stillness, with the reflected light across the wet sand giving the painting its sense of space and solitude.
