Hello

I’m Marcus — an artist based in Eastbourne, UK, working primarily in acrylics.

My paintings are rooted in close observation: of people, coastlines, and the quiet moments where light, movement, and stillness meet. Much of my work is inspired by the Sussex coast, where expansive space and subtle human presence create a natural sense of balance.

This site brings together original acrylic works shaped by where I live, the people around me, and a lifelong attention to detail.

My Story

I’ve always had a strong eye for detail — call it neurodiversity, call it curiosity — but I’ve long been fascinated by the natural world and the people who move within it.

Before fully committing to painting, I spent many years working in education and community development. I taught and trained thousands of young people and teachers across more than 30 countries, from Bogotá to Addis Ababa, Papua New Guinea to Hong Kong. That work demanded observation, patience, resilience, and empathy — qualities that now sit at the heart of my painting practice.

Life hasn’t followed a straight line. I’ve reinvented myself more than once: from full-time educator to husband and father, through major career changes, redundancy, opportunity, and recovery from a stroke at 46. Along the way, distance running, travel, and creative practice have been constant anchors.

Returning seriously to art has felt less like a change of direction and more like a return. Early years spent drawing and experimenting with materials have evolved into a focused painting practice, primarily using acrylics, layering, glazing, and restrained palettes to explore light, atmosphere, and quiet human presence.

I’m inspired by artists past and present, but most of all by the people and landscapes around me — particularly the coastline, where land, sea, and sky are always in conversation.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter as a professional artist.

Thank you for being here — and for joining me on the journey.
