Series: Downland Light
A wide, panoramic view from the edge of a field at the foot of Wilmington Hill, looking out across expansive rapeseed towards the distant Weald and the soft rise of Heathfield on the horizon. Bands of yellow move across the landscape, carrying the eye steadily into the distance.
The painting holds onto that sense of being still within the landscape—at ground level, with space opening out ahead rather than beneath. Colour is deliberately restrained, allowing light, scale and atmosphere to define the scene.
This work will be exhibited at the Star Brewery Gallery Summer Exhibition in Lewes, East Sussex.
Part of the Downland Light series, this painting reflects an ongoing interest in light as both subject and structure.
