Series: Coastal Balance
Painted at Normans Bay at the end of March, this work explores the subtle light and atmosphere of the Sussex coast at low tide. The broad expanse of wet sand reflects the shifting tones of sea and sky, creating a surface that changes constantly with the movement of light and water.
Two fishermen searching for razor clams provide a quiet focal point within the landscape, their presence emphasising the scale and openness of the beach. Layers of soft greys, blues and muted earth tones build a sense of depth and reflection across the sand, capturing the fleeting qualities of a shoreline revealed only briefly between the tides.
Part of the Coastal Balance series, the painting reflects an ongoing interest in light, space and the quieter moments found along the Sussex coast.
