A view from the South Downs ridge above Rodmell, looking south along the crest of the Downs. Fields, hedgerows and tracks follow the contours of the landscape, creating a patchwork of colour and texture beneath the wide Sussex sky.

Part of the Downland Light series, this work explores the changing character of the Downs through season, light and atmosphere. The ridge-top viewpoint offers a strong sense of space and elevation, with the landscape unfolding along the line of the hills rather than across the valley below.

Painted in early summer, the work captures the light, atmosphere and quiet openness that characterise this stretch of downland above the Ouse Valley.
