A close, intimate portrait of Lacey, painted against a deep, near-black background that allows the warmth of her coat and the detail of her bridle to emerge from the darkness. I was particularly drawn to the quiet expression in her eye and the subtle shifts of warm and cool colour across her face.

Painted in acrylic on Ampersand Museum Series Gessobord, the work was inspired by a photograph of Lacey by equine photographer Iain Gavin.
