Series: Downland Light
Looking across the Downs from Ranscombe Lane, the landscape unfolds in broad layers beneath an immense blue summer sky. Fields, tracks and hedgerows follow the contours of the hills towards Beddingham Hill, where the familiar radio masts stand on the skyline. Beyond them the ridge continues east towards Firle Beacon, one of the most recognisable stretches of the South Downs. The painting explores the scale and openness of this landscape, and the way light reveals its distinctive folds and contours.
