A view from the fields on the edge of Wilmington village, looking across flowering rapeseed towards Firle Beacon on the South Downs. Painted in early May, the landscape is caught in the last light of the day, with warm sunlight moving across the fields beneath a soft evening sky.

Bands of yellow and green carry the eye towards the distant ridge, while the open landscape beyond suggests the scale and breadth of the Sussex countryside. The painting captures a brief moment when the intensity of spring colour is balanced by the gentler light of evening.
